Week 4

Ways to Care for God’s Creation

Throughout the summer we’re going to give you some suggestions for ways that you can better help to take care of the beautiful world that God gave us.

Week 4 – Use Less Water

Water is one of the most valuable resources in the world. Without water, we cannot grow crops, wash clothes, or sustain life. Unfortunately, fresh, clean drinking water is one of the most limited resources on the planet. Only 3% of the planet’s water is freshwater, and only 1.2% of that freshwater can be used for drinking water. Because water is so easily available to us, sometimes we forget how precious it is and how much we waste of this valuable resource.

Here are a few ways to conserve water

  • Take shorter showers or don’t take a shower every day. Every minute a shower uses 2 to 5 gallons of water!
  • Don’t run the faucet when you brush your teeth.
  • Don’t rinse your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.
  • When you run water to get it to the right temperature, use a pan to catch the water as you run it and use it for other things, like watering plants.
  • Fix leaky faucets.
  • Only run your dishwasher or washing machine when it’s full.
  • Catch rainwater and use it later to help water your lawn.
  • These are just a few ideas. Look online to find more suggestions!
