I found this prayer in a book of prayer for kids and I thought it was really meaningful and insightful.

Dear God,

I want to pray for what my dad would pray for if he wasn’t so busy.

I want to pray for what my mom would pray for if she wasn’t so tired.

I want to pray for what my brother would pray for if he wasn’t glued to the screen.

I want to pray for what my sister would pray for if she wasn’t always talking to her friends.

These are my prayers, dear God, will you please tell me the words?

Sometimes when we pray for other people we don’t know what to say. We may know that they are hurting or in trouble – we may know that they are sick or struggling – but we just don’t know how to ask God for the help they need.

But even though we don’t know exactly what they need or the right words to say – the Holy Spirit knows. The important thing is just to pray. When we pray we are bringing our concern for them to God. When we pray we are thinking of the person we are praying for in love and asking for God’s help. Praying for others is a way to show our love for them – even if our words aren’t perfect God will hear the love and concern behind them. Pray and be thankful because God hears our prayers.
