Sometimes it seems like when life gets super busy one of the first things that we let go is taking time to pray. I know that sometimes I’ve been guilty of this. I always set aside time for prayer and scripture reading first thing in the morning, but sometimes there is just so much to do that I’ll decide to skip my morning prayer time. And it seems like when I do this, my day never goes as well.
I thought about that when I read the Bible this morning.
He should sit alone and be quiet;
the Lord has given him hard work to do.
He should bow down to the ground;
maybe there is still hope. – Lamentations 3:28-29 (New Century Version)
It seems strange to say that we should sit alone and be quiet when God has given us hard work to do – but I think that maybe we need to sit alone and be quiet because God has given us hard work to do.
- When we take time to pray before our day begins, we start the day with God – then we find that we can become surrounded by the love and peace that surrounds us when we come to God in prayer. Then when we go out in the world, we can bring that love and peace to others.
- When we start our day in stillness with God – then even when things become busy and chaotic, we can find that stillness that God gave us at the start of the day.
- When we are quiet and listen to God for guidance – then we can go into the day trusting in God. When we trust in God, then we can find hope.
Don’t skip prayer because you have a lot of work to do, instead take time to be still and pray because you have a lot of work to do.
